A row of dirty, broken windows or battered garage doors can create interesting shapes to experiment with in my compositions. I like to explore seemingly banal and repetitive urban subjects and use vivid colour to give them new life.
Beaches have always inspired my desire to draw and paint. The sense of open space and often dramatic changes in light provide exciting backdrops for foreground action.
Traveling refreshes my approach to painting. A few days’ break in a new city can inspire my painting for a whole year. It’s exciting to challenge my preconceptions about a place and allow new ideas and styles to come to the surface.
